Customer Service at Star Bucks

One day in December 2009 I met with my COO at a local Star Bucks for a business meeting, When we walked in the door we saw a big sign advertising three new holiday flavors for which one of them sounded good, so I ordered one and My COO did also, to our surprise the cashier said that they had run out of the flavoring for that particular ordered. Not completely understanding why it was still being adertised or how they can advertise something and not have it, But understanding that things do happen I made a suggestion that they contact another store and borrow what they need for that item from them, but the reply from the cashier was that the whole region was out. Now I found that a little hard to believe. It was fairly clear and safe to say that this person had no customer service training or was not trained properly for his position. "To me" even if he could not supply me with what I wanted to buy, I think he could have suggested something similar to what I was looking for, at least that would have showed me he was trying. But not even that was offered. Is it wrong for me to request respect from a service provider? No I don't think so. If I am spending my money it is the responsibility of the merchant to clearly provide that for which they advertise or not advertise it at all. It is also their responsibility to insure their employees are properly trained and understand the value of consumer service because my money is my money until I say other wise. I digress. I decided to go to another Star Bucks " One right up the street in fact" just to see if they were out of the item that I requested from the first Star Bucks, and I wasn't surprised when they were not. I got what I wanted. My concern was with that first Star Bucks and the fact that he not only lied about the region being out, and I would like to remind you a region is a lot of real estate, he had no concept of costumer service. With Unemployment still high I am very sure that if he did not want the Job someone else would be more than happy to take his place and would jump and the chance. All I can say is Star Bucks please get control over your employees.
